Frequently asked questions about telc examinations

  • How can I register for a telc examination?

You can register online or on-site at your Carl Duisberg Training Center.

  • When is the registration deadline for an exam?

You must register approximately three weeks before the exam. You can find the exact dates in the schedule at your Carl Duisberg Training Center.

  • How much does it cost to take a telc exam?

Info about the price of the exams you can find on the page "German Exams - telc German".

  • How can I pay for the telc examination and by when?

You can pay by bank transfer or PayPal and on site with debit/EC card or cash. A payment by credit card is possible via PayPal and partly also on site. Please note that your payment must be received by us no later than three working days after receipt of the confirmation. The payment must be received by the registration deadline of the exam at the latest. Otherwise we will have to cancel your booking.

  • What happens if I have to cancel my exam participation due to illness?

If you are unable to take your telc exam due to illness, please be sure to inform us before the exam begins. If you provide us with a sick note or a doctor's certificate within three days of the exam date, you have the following options:

    • You may take your exam on the subsequent date with no additional payment.
    • If you cancel your participation completely, we will charge you € 50,- handling fee. We will refund the remaining amount.
  • How can I get credit for a partial result of a previous exam?

If you retake a failed exam, you can have a passed partial result (written or oral part) of a previous exam credited to you. You then do not need to retake the corresponding part of the exam. The result will be transferred to your new exam result. Previous results can only be credited for the same exam (B1 for B1, B2 for B2, etc.). Crediting C1 for C1 Hochschule (College) or vice versa is not possible.

Crediting is only possible within twelve months after taking the first exam (date of issue of the result sheet) and must be indicated when registering for your exam.

Unfortunately, partial results from previous exams cannot be credited for the B1-B2 Pflege (Healthcare) and B2-C1 Medizin (Medicine) as well as B1-B2 Beruf (Professional) and B2-C1 Beruf (Professional) exams.

  • What is the best way to prepare for the telc exam?

The best preparation is offered by a preparation course, either as group or individual training. Furthermore, you can find practice tests and material on telc's website. Please note: Currently the English version of the telc website is still under construction. The links to the exercise material therefore temporarily refer to the German version.

After you have registered for the exam, you will receive a schedule about a week before the exam. This schedule will also be posted at the Carl Duisberg Training Center.

IMPORTANT: Keep the entire day of the exam free.

  • What aids are allowed?

    No aids are allowed.

  • When can I find out the results and where do I pick up my certificate?

The results are available approximately 7 weeks after the test. You can pick up the certificate in person at the test center upon presentation of your photo ID.

  • Can I get the results faster?

Unfortunately, there is no possibility to receive the results faster.

  • Can the certificate also be sent to me? Also abroad?

It is possible to send it, but you have to pay in advance when you register or on the day of the exam (domestic € 5, within the EU € 10). Outside the EU we send the certificates only by express shipping (FedEx or DHL) for a fee of € 70.

  • Can someone else pick up my certificate?

With a signed power of attorney and a copy of your ID card, you can also have the certificate picked up by someone you trust. The person must also have identification with them.

  • How long is my telc certificate valid?

Your certificate for a passed telc examination is valid indefinitely.

  • Will the telc B1 exam be accepted for my naturalization?

The telc German B1 examination is recognized as proof of sufficient language skills for your naturalization in Germany.

  • Which telc examination is accepted as proof of language proficiency for studying in Germany?

Carl Duisberg Centren offers various courses to help you prepare.
